Hello again! It has certainly been a while since I last posted something here. In fact it has been one month, granted it was the shortest month even with leap day so no too bad right? During this month, filled with work, video games, too many TV shows and the discovery of an excellent progressive metal band , I have been contemplating on what I would like to bring to this blog. One idea, that I am now invoking is.....The Photo of the Week!
The intention of this series is to 1) increase my blogging frequency, 2) get me behind the camera more often, 3) get me to really think about what I am capturing in these photo and 4) get you all to delve further into my mind (proceed at your own risk). Each week I plan to pick a photo from one of my existing albums or, depending on how inspiring the week is, take a photo of something. From there I will do my best to talk about various aspects of the selected photo. This week's photo is from my most recent album upload Ramapo State Park.
And the first winner of Photo of the Week is.....Monochrome Rain Ripples.
Yes, a relatively lame name for a photo but naming isn't really my forte. I took this photo a few years ago at Ramapo State Park while hiking with one of my dearest and most annoying friend's (don't worry he knows). I am cheating a little bit by using this photo because it's my favorite and, in my opinion, one of the best photos I have ever taken. There is a certain simplicity to it that captivates me even though there is so much going on. The monochrome ripples complimented with the fall colored leaves floating on reflections of their former residence. I think on some level it reminds me of life, a swirling mass of complexity and yet simply beautiful. Well, I think that is enough existential talk for one post, yes?
Now, if you're wondering "But Korey, how did you manage to compose such a photo?", you're in luck cuz I'm gonna tell ya! Like most of my photos, it consisted of me being in the middle of chatting (this particular conversation was my friend and I having a discussion about owning a mountain range, dividing it into quadrants and having each quadrant represent one of the four basic elements, ya know, normal conversation), then glancing around. I do this until my brain says "that looks interesting" and I snap some shots while adjusting settings until I see what I saw in my mind's eye. It is an incredibly nontechnical way to go about it but it works for me. If you're thinking about getting into photography and don't know where to start you can give that a try. You don't have anything to lose!
Well that is all for me this week. I hope you have enjoyed this little discussion of mine and look forward to doing it again next week.
What thoughts and emotions does Monochrome Rain Ripples invoke in you? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to get other perspectives!
Ja nee.
